Toronto English Country Dancers

Rooted in the Past, Dancing into the Future

Dancing in High Park 2019

Sunday afternoons, weather permitting, 4-6.30 pm

English Country dancing from 4 - 6.30, and dinner and/or ice cream on Roncesvalles following the dance!

Fruit or other snacks are always welcome at the break during the dance. Please bring plenty of water for yourself.
Suggested footwear: running shoes

Our High Park dances are free, but we are extremely fortunate to have live music at every single dance, so we gratefully accept contributions to our TECD Sustaining Fund all year round. These help us finance not only the park series, but our regular dances, workshops, big dance weekends and other special events as well.

Donations can be made by cash or cheque, or by e-transfer. Our dance community thanks you for every contribution, large or small! More information is on our "Contact Us" info page.

Directions, map and weather policy

We've got a breezy, shady spot under the trees on a packed-earth pathway, free of stones and roots. It's an idyllic setting for English Country Dancing!

Our path runs east-west, and we dance just outside the Shakespeare in High Park site (High Park Amphitheatre, at the east), which is about 100 metres east of the Grenadier Restaurant and roughly in the middle of the park. During the theatre season, you can just follow the yellow Shakespeare in the Park signs. The site is easy to reach from the Bloor Street, Queensway, and Parkside Drive entrances (see detailed instructions, below).

How to find us

The restaurant is at the intersection of Colborne Lodge Rd and Centre Rd. Turn your back to the parking lot and look across the road. You'll see a big rock, yellow signs, a tree and a path that stretches off toward the Shakespeare site. We're just down the path, about 100 metres east of the restaurant. If you are having trouble finding us, please phone (647) 878-4884 and we'll give you directions.

Subway: get off at High Park Stn. and leave by the Quebec Ave. exit. Cross Bloor at the High Park Ave. light (just east of the station) to the south side, go through the park gates and follow Colborne Rd. south. It takes less than 20 minutes to reach us.

Streetcar: there are several choices of route. The Queen streetcar will take you to the bottom of the park (along the Queensway). Get off at Colborne Lodge Road and follow it north. The College streetcar goes right into the east side of the park. Follow Howard Park Road into the valley, where there is a crossroads. Follow Centre Road up the other side of the valley. The Dundas streetcar also takes you close to the park, but you need to transfer to the College car at Howard Park to get you the rest of the way. Whichever route you choose, please always check the TTC website for service updates well in advance.

Parking can be found inside the park not far from our site, near Bloor by the swimming pool, at the south end near Colborne Lodge, and at Grenadier Restaurant.

There are washrooms nearby.

Toronto English Country Dancers’ weather and cancellation policy

The TECD weather phone will be set up on the day of the dance. If the forecast looks iffy, we'll make a decision, send an e-mail and create a voice message by 2 pm so that people can plan their afternoon. Please wait until 2:05 to phone. The number is (647) 878-4884. We will update our Facebook page with a weather decision at the same time, and the website if possible.
